Nihal Arthanayake
Nihal is the host of Radio 1’s Review Show (Tuesdays 9 pm-10 pm) and Asian Beats Wednesdays (12 am-2 am).
He started promoting rap shows in his native Essex while still doing his A Levels which led to him becoming a music journalist and later a music PR
His television career began in 1999 when he presented Webwise (BBC2). He went on to have his own rap show on MTV Base - The Drop, and presented for CBBC’s Saturday Show Extra. Subsequently he co-presented three series of of Desi DNA (BBC 2), and was a recurring contributor for UKTV’s The Clothes Show. In 2007 he was asked to be a mentor for Channel 4’s Debutantes and in 2008 he can be seen regularly presenting items for the Culture Show (BBC 2).
In October 2003 Nihal and Bobby Friction teamed up to launch their new Radio 1 show ‘Bobby and Nihal Presents…’ (12 am - 2 am Wednesdays) winning gold at the Sony Music Awards.
From May 2007 Nihal began presenting the phone-in show on BBC Asian Network (9am- 12 pm Monday-Thursday). In October 2007 he was given Radio 1’s Weekend Breakfast show and in 2008 he hosted the Saturday and Sunday Afternoon show (1-4 pm).
He is also on the board for the British Council
